FLO LABS
Optimizing the outdoors

Follow Us
FLO LABS is building the first intelligent assistant for outdoor recreation, streamlining every adventure with curated information and reports. The company’s first product is a connected device and mobile app for surfers that learns their habits and preferences with each session. With the ability to crowdsource realtime reports and make personalized recommendations about when and where to go, and what gear to use, FLO LABS’s connected sensors and intelligent network have the potential to improve the way people plan and experience incredible moments outdoors.
The FLO LABS Team
FLO LABS was founded by West Askew and Shane Farmer in 2015. West, with a background in electro-mechanical engineering, and Shane, with a background in software and firmware engineering, met as early hires into Google[x]’s life sciences project (now Verily), where they worked on sensor platforms for projects ranging from the smart contact lens to robotic surgery and wearables for detecting cancer. They were recently joined by Carson Lau, a product design engineer for Google[x]’s Google Glass, Kris Rasmussen, the former head of engineering for Asana, and Christian Morabito, who manages the FLO LABS community and beta efforts.
