Prototyper of the Week
Muchi Experiments with Enclosures
Every week, we recognize the Highway1 team that was most active in the lab with the prestigious Prototyper of the Week award.
This week’s winner is Muchi, who is making a simple and reliable communication device linking parents and kids. Here to tell the team’s story in their own words is mechanical and industrial designer Daniel Ramirez:
“We had an Arduino prototype for our device, but it was basically naked. We needed to build an enclosure that would fit around the guts, so people could put it on their wrists safely.
“We started by examining dimensions of wrist worn products already in the market. From there, we carved foam prototypes, which allowed us to test assumptions and confirm the shape we wanted. Finally, we moved to CAD and then 3D printing. We tested several different button and LED placements before landing on the final design. These prototypes will allow us to start user testing.”
