Prototyper of the Week

Calliope Gets Thrifty

Every week, we recognize the Highway1 team that was most active in the lab with the prestigious Prototyper of the Week award.

This week’s winner is Calliope, which is developing a single device that gives homeowners real-time, detailed information about their water use. Here to talk about the team’s prototyping is co-founder Joel Boutros:

“We are trying to solve a power issue. We discovered that some of the sensors we are using to read motion in the water meter have fairly high power needs.

“We brought our test rig to Highway1. It was designed so that we could easily swap pieces in and out to test. The prototyping we’ve done has given us a better understanding of the different parts we may use, and we can now design a system that uses less power.”
